Ok dumb question!!! When doing this mod what exactly is changing to get the steering to the 50*.Just trying to figure it all out.

one thing that was not available or even in production at the time this mod was being done was any type of drop in universal that would allow for more throw than the stock dog bones (ie: Vanquish VVD's) secondly even with the VVD's the stock knuckles and most aluminum knuckles available hit the axle housing and limit your throw (unless buying Vanquish), more importantly its not just even about changing to something like the VVD's to get more steering. it's also a combination of being able to clock the XR10 style chubs back and increasing that caster angle that also aids in giving more steering.

remember this Steven the only dumb question is the one that doesnt get asked so yours is definetly not dumb

with a bunch of new people around here, talking about getting more steering from a scaler, plus some recent readily available parts additions for doing this mod. i thought i would revitalize this thread that our good pal Jim started. Rcbros is making tubes in 2 different widths with the splines for the XR10/Wraith chubs.

    1. will keep the stock width SCX10 axle which you will need to trim universals made for an XR10 and here are those parts

steering arms to add to the wraith/xr10 knuckles
    http://rcbros.com/?product=extended-...h-steering-arm

to go with the steering arms you will need a longer tie rod
    http://www.vanquishproducts.com/curr...rod-drag-link/

these tubes are designed to keep the stock scx10 width available in brass or aluminum
    http://rcbros.com/?product=brass-bur...ned-tubes-copy

    XR10/Wraith chubs
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXAARZ&P=7

    XR10/Wraith knuckles
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXAARY&P=7

    XR10 universals
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXAARM&P=7

    2. these parts are to extend the width and be about the same as an XR10 10.20

steering arms to add to the wraith/xr10 knuckles
    http://rcbros.com/?product=extended-...h-steering-arm

this tie rod is longer and designed to work with the extended tubes listed below
    http://rcbros.com/?product=burly-tube-steering-linkage

these tubes will make your track width wider but no grinding of the universal is required, in brass
    http://rcbros.com/?product=brass-burly-splined-tubes

    or aluminum
    http://rcbros.com/?product=burly-splined-tubes

    XR10/Wraith chubs
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXAARZ&P=7

    XR10/Wraith knuckles
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXAARY&P=7

    XR10 universals
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXAARM&P=7

on a side note i did read that if you widen the front here is what you would need if you want to widen the rear to match track width

another set of burly tubes, in brass
    http://rcbros.com/?product=brass-burly-splined-tubes

    or aluminum
    http://rcbros.com/?product=burly-splined-tubes

    Wraith rear lockouts
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBEWX&P=7

XR10 rear long axle shafts (you would need 2 pkgs)

Wow, this was from Christmas 2011 and believe it or not I am still running the same exact parts on this scaler. Great description and info Rcjunky!

IMO the biggest problem at the time was the stock dog bones would pop out of the stub shaft cup after a certain amount of steering. If Im remembering it right you could take a bit of material away from the chub/knuckles but like I said before when you go too far the dog bones pop out and that was our main problem 4 YEARS AGO. LOL. As Rich pointed out nowadays there are tons of parts and options to do this mod.
    Don't forget to have fun!

Someone on rcc said that wraith universals make the tire change speeds twice a rotation when they are turned. Is this true? I can't see it in my head

heres a little more info for those that might not want to do the XR mod and just go with the 8 degree steering using Vanquish parts, they are the only ones that are making 8 degree chubs and knuckles. this will still increase your steering over stock just not as much as the XR way

this kit will give you rear axle lockouts as well
    http://www.vanquishproducts.com/axia...lack-anodized/

    or just the chub
    http://www.vanquishproducts.com/scx10-8-degree-c-hub/

    and knuckle
    http://www.vanquishproducts.com/scx1...gree-knuckles/

    VVD's
    http://www.vanquishproducts.com/scx10-vvd-v1-hd/

and tie rod to work with the knuckles a stock length will not work
    http://www.vanquishproducts.com/curr...rod-drag-link/

either of the axial 12mm hexes will not work with any wheel i have tried as it is not spaced out enough so i have had to use these. unless using a slw style wheel then just buy the wider slw hub from Vanquish
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/111808405922...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

to go with these wider hexes you will now need a lower profile locknut to actually get into the lock portion
